Intercede and Swissbit extend partnership to build end-to-end post-quantum authentication

[Partner announcement: Intercede originally distributed this press release on June 15.]

Intercede, the digital identity experts, today announced an extension of its partnership with Swissbit to begin active development of an end-to-end FIDO2 Passkey offering utilising post-quantum cryptography (PQC). The work brings together Swissbit’s hardware supporting FIDO2 Passkeys with Intercede’s MyID® product family to give customers a single path from device issuance to phishing-resistant authentication that will stand up to quantum-era attacks.

The threat is not theoretical. Security teams are already planning for “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks, where data captured today is stored until a quantum computer can break the cryptography protecting it. Authentication credentials are a prime target. Building post-quantum resistance into the FIDO2 stack now, from the secure element on the device through to the management layer that issues and governs it.

“Most of the post-quantum conversation has been about the algorithms. The harder problem is everything around them: issuing the credential, binding it to a device, managing it across thousands of users for years. That is the part we have been doing for two decades, and it is the part we are building for the quantum era with Swissbit.”
Klaas van der Leest, CEO, Intercede

Intercede products already support Swissbit’s PKI, PIV and FIDO2 devices, including iShield Key 2 series of devices. MyID CMS issues and manages PKI and FIDO-based credentials to those devices across their full lifecycle, from issuance through to revocation, for deployments ranging from hundreds to millions of users.

The initial joint work will be demonstrated at Identiverse, taking place from June 15–18, 2026, at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Visitors can see the first stage of the post-quantum FIDO2 development on the Swissbit stand, booth #323. Intercede will follow with an introduction to the full MyID product suite in the coming months, covering credential management, multi-factor authentication, password security, secure credential storage and identity verification across the authentication spectrum.

“A passkey is only as trustworthy as the system that issued it and the cryptography underneath it. Doing this end to end with Intercede means customers get one quantum-safe chain, not a set of parts they have to stitch together themselves.”
Alexander Summerer, Head of Authentication, Swissbit

Customers will be able to start where they are today, with the PKI, PIV and FIDO2 devices already in their environment, and move to post-quantum FIDO2 as the standards and their own requirements mature.
